Imagine yourself on a remote island on which you have never seen anyone else than your father and one or two of his strange helpers. Describe how you will react when you suddenly see a group of young people coming to greet you out of nowhere. Miranda says
O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world
That has such people in’t!
As the ocean waves crushed violently against the coast’s edge, fiercely guarded by the boulders that stood intrusive in the sea, the young girl gazed upon the horizon contemplating her loneliness on the isolated island. Serenity encompassed the land as there was not a foreign sound to be heard. The girl sat peacefully along the kilometres of sand that surrounded the island, if anyone was to see her from afar she would look like an ant, almost invisible within its environment.
“I ought to be getting back home,” thought the girl, “its getting dark!” The girl got up and made her return to her campsite, which consisted of a big pile of palm leaves, sheltered under the island shrubs. Walking the slightly worn track back home, the girl encountered something strange. She picked it up and attempted to read the label, “…coca…cola….no sugar…” the girl pronounced with doubt. In utter astonishment, the girl decided to keep the can to add to her collection of randoms finds and continue her walk home when suddenly, from behind the shrub, a group of boys appeared,
“err, sorry miss, do you have any reception out here, I need to call my mum, she’ll be worried about me!” cautioned one of the boys.
With a great deal of fright upon seeing such unusual boys, the girl was confused and didn’t know what to do so she started screaming and began to run back to her camp.
Upon returning to the camp, she found her father speaking to Molly and Polly, the two working dogs. This is when the girl exclaimed all about the boys she encountered and revealed to her dad the can of coke she found on the trail. Her father then began to sit her down and ask her what she said to the boys and to show him where they were standing.
The girl and her father, alongside the two dogs, bristly walked back to the trail where they found 4 teenage boys with brim hats and ripped clothing sitting amongst the shrubs. When the boys saw the father and daughter approach they got up to greet them, much to the girls amazement.
“I’m sorry for scaring your daughter, I thought she could help us…” began one of the boys.
“Our boat capsized and we have been floating at sea all afternoon, the high tide washed us up here….” explained another, brushing away the dirt off his pants.
The girl shyly interrupted, “Dad, is this what a man looks like?”
“Yes, well, not quite, but yes, darling, these are teenage boys, about your age,” answered the father.
“Can I keep one! Can he be my new friend,” questioned the girl, gaining excitement at the prospect of new friends other than Molly and Polly.
