I thoroughly enjoyed reading your poem that you have dedicated to your children, I believe this is a beautiful gift, regardless of whether it is for a uni blog or not! I know that once your girls are old enough to understand the skill in which you have written this poem, they will love it and reflect on themes of love and the importance of the relationship created between mother and daughter. I believe you have essentially encapsulated the rollercoaster of emotions that occurs within the relationship between a mother and their daughter, having experienced it myself and being witness to my mum parent my 9 year old sister. This are hugely complicated worldwide themes, which you have eloquently presented in your sonnet style poem. I particularly like the lines,
“Still, thou kept me together with thy invigorating force, And to me given love a new sense of vast depth”
Here, you have uses your own life experiences and have subsequently related them to everyone reading your poem, as readers can connect to the feeling of someone being an invigorating force that holds them together and thus allows them to realise the deepest truths within themselves. This is very powerful!
Also, you have captured the juxtaposition of the innocence of children, and the wider world that surrounds them. This again is a powerful theme and shows your ability to creatively write and extensive linguistic skill.
I have not attempted to create a sonnet myself, so I am unable to comment on any grammatical or other errors. Sorry!
I love the picture you have added to your blog, this creates a personal tone, allowing me to be intrigued by your other blogs and writing to come. Well done!
